iPhone 4: There is no way to unlock the current basebands. If you are currently unlocked (baseband 01.59.00) you can use redsn0w, sn0wbreeze, PwnageTool, or TinyUmbrella to retain your baseband while upgrading.

iPhone 3G and 3GS involves updating your baseband to the iPad's baseband (6.15.00) using redsn0w. If you are currently unlocked you can use sn0wbreeze or PwnageTool to retain your baseband while upgrading.

iPhone 2G can be always be unlocked using ultrasn0w as its final firmware (3.1.3) has an unlockable baseband.

All unlocks involve installing ultrasn0w after jailbreaking. Also it is very important to remember that you cannot downgrade basebands!

Well it's using the SHAtter exploit, which can only be patched be a hardware update, so to stop people jailbreaking, apple will have to make a new iPod or iPhone haha

alright so i understand that shatter thing, so ur saying once the hardware is patched then it can always be jailbroken like those first gen devices, and also will it be able to be reversed like other jailbreaks

a hardware update sounds pretty big then just a custom firmware :s

No, the jailbreak goes through a security hole in the hardware, so the only way apple can stop people jailbreaking with the shatter exploit is by releasing a new iPhone or iPod, that has the security hole patched! :)

lmfao, i guess apple is pretty fucked then because now they gotta make a new device after all that work, how long do u thing it will take untill they come out with a new one

and another thing is that isnt a that a big thing if its a hardware update, it still can be reversed still because rememebr alot of us like to take the advatage of bringing in our device to apple and get it fixed without voiding the warrenty

Hmm, what ppl don't seem to realize is that if you restore the iPod, they can't and won't check if it's jailbroken, lol
It's usually about six months between new devices...

The jailbreak doesn't do any hardware patching, all the jb does is goes through the hardware to get to the software, only apple will have to do the patching if they want the jailbreak to be stopped

It should from what I've heard. Since it is a hardware exploit.

I think it's the exploit that will always work, I think apple can change a few things so the jailbreak stuffs up, but all they have to do is make a new jailbreak tool, but they won't have to find a new exploit
