I have a factory unlocked 3GS on 4.0.1 but I want to install cydia without jailbreaking it so I can have a factory unlocked iPhone with cydia

Jailbreak allows access to the root which is what you need.

If it's factory unlocked then it was never locked, which means it didn't have to be unlocked

Your phone will always be unlike if done by the factory unlock be unlocked and if you jailbreak it like you should it will nit void your warranty as some ppl think next question dude keep them coming [emoji-E057] [emoji-E057] [emoji-E057]
