iPhones damaged after iOS 7 waterproofing spoof fools users

A bogus advert for iOS 7 claiming that the operating system makes devices waterproof has fooled some users into testing the feature.

The post is said to have originated on the 4Chan bulletin board, tricking a small minority of users into submerging their iPhones and damaging them in the process.

"In an emergency, a smart-switch will shut off the phone's power supply and corresponding components to prevent any damage to your iPhone's delicate circuitry," reads the fake advert.

Reports of water-damaged iPhones have emerged on Twitter and other social networks since the ad appeared online.

Apple is yet to introduce water resistance to its iPhone line, but several of its Android rivals, including the Samsung Galaxy Active and the Sony Xperia Z1, have the feature.

The iOS 7 operating system began its rollout on September 18

I'm sure the bulk of those people were real young, I can't see someone older than like 15 or 16 being fooled into this.
