Apple Stores Accepting Trade-Ins for New iPhone on August 30

Apparently, mobile carriers aren't the only companies interested in helping you upgrade to a new smartphone quicker. Recent rumors have stated Apple was working on a retail trade-in setup for its iPhones, and according to new reports, Apple Store employees are currently undergoing training for the program which is allegedly set to fully launch August 30.

Earlier this summer, Bloomberg first reported an iPhone trade-in system at Apple Stores which included a partnership with smartphone recyclers Brightstar Corp. According to sources speaking with MacRumors, Apple Store employees will begin training on the initiative today, with those initial employees leading training with other store associates next week. A pilot run of the trade-in program is already underway at select U.S. Apple Stores, according to TechCrunch.

Allegedly, iPhone owners will be able to enter an Apple Store with a "working, non-liquid-damaged iPhone" and answer a few questions via the location's EasyPay terminals about the condition of the device. Assuming your old iPhone--it's not yet clear which models are compatible--is worth some cash, you'll then receive a store credit. Apple currently offers a similar trade-in system, but only through the mail.

Widespread speculation has Apple announcing the iPhone 5S and lower-cost iPhone 5C on September 10. Be sure to check out IGN's rumor roundup for all the latest details.
