Ok plain and simple I really don't have time to search every topic because I have four kids and a full time job with a part time job.
I want to install a monitoring program on the original ipad but I have to jail break the ipad but i need to know how exactly and can the fact that it has been jail broken be hidden From my kids and wife.
I only have tonight to get this all done. Yes i suspect my wife is cheating and yes i want to make sure my kids are behaving in the ipad.

Well the only thing that easily shows it is jailbroken is the cydia icon. You could hide it in a folder or you could use a tweak from cydia to hide it. I would maybe just hide it in a folder somewhere because if you use a tweak from cydia like sbsettings or poof there will open up another way that you find out it's jailbroken. If they don't know what cydia is they won't know it's jailbroken.

So if they are using the ipad once it is jailbroken they will not know it is broken? such as things they do on it won't really be different? or will they be able to tell by downloading things and such that didn't exist, also what do you mean hide it in a file? how do I go about doing that?

The devices works the same. They won't know anything. They only thing will be a new icon/app called Cydia. Everything else works the same. It just opens the ability to add apps and tweaks that aren't approved by Apple by using Cydia. I just meant that if you make a folder like you do for any other app (like games or whatever) you could put Cydia in some folder that maybe isn't used much or somewhere else semi-discreet. Even if they see the app and don't know what it is they can't tell it's jailbroken.

Well I figured out how to put it in an app to make a folder but it is obvious that there is two things in it so is there another way of doing it?
Plus doesn't it show in the itunes store?

It's not part of the iTunes store. It exists on its own. If you don't have other folders then yes it will be obvious. You could install poof from cydia but then it adds something to your settings app where it will show all of your apps and that cydia is turned off. You could use sbsettings and there is an option to hide apps but then you'd have to turn off the ways sbsettings activates or they might accidently swipe and activate it.

Honestly I would just keep the cydia icon somewhere on the springboard that they might not notice or mess with it much. If they don't know what it does then they probably won't figure out what it is and even less likely that they'll find out what's installed with it.

Springboard? as in the desk top? if that is the case then my wife at the most will know because she pays attention to the apps.
I can't just delete the icon? or will the cydia be somewhere else she can see?

Springboard is where all the app icons on the device are located. So if you are calling that the "desktop" of the iPad than yes. You can't delete the icon. You can hide it. You could use poof in cydia and the only thing she could find it is in the settings app.

Tell her you are using cydia for something else like adding more apps to the dock. Then do it and you aren't lying. Or install sbsettings and use that to hide the icon. Just make sure you adjust the settings such as how it is activated.

The sbsettings would be on the springboard wouldn't it? or somewhere she would see it?

I wish they just had a frigging spyware you could use without jailbreaking this damn thing lol.

If she is cheating she will be on the look out for programs she didn't add since I never touch the ipad.

Sbsettings can be activated using a swipe gesture across the status bar or in any number of ways that you can specify. It contains the ability to hide any icon including the sbsettings icon.

So it would not be anywhere else at all for her to see? and you mean I can tell sbsettings how I want it to be activated by setting it up that way and blocking all other ways?

It wouldn't be anywhere for anyone to see. You can set it to activate however you like. I'm trying to think of the ways that would be the most difficult. Maybe toggle mute switch twice or a two finger slide in gesture. But yes you'd have to disable the other ways which by default are swiping across the status bar.

I am thinking of taking a vacation day so I can do all this, would you be willing to help me with doing all this?
I would appreciate it if you would.

Could really use a reponse.
I was going to just do it myself but the ipad keeps asking for the passcode to unlock the screen even though I turned it off.

No because I was not sure if it was the correct one and the ipad will not disable the password code & she doesn't have exchange account on it so I don't know what is wrong.
I guess it was not meant for me to know the truth.
Thank you for the time though.
