Rumors have been in place for weeks now about Virgin Mobile USA contracting the iPhone 4S and the company has now officially confirmed the suspicions. Earlier today the Sprint-operated prepaid brand even confirmed that it would become one of the first companies in the United States to offer the iPhone on a month-to-month contract.
The lowest service plan available for the upcoming device is $30, a fairly cheap alternative to other carriers that charge upwards of $80-100 a month for each service contract. Having the ability to come and go as they please will satisfy many customers who don't favor long-term commitments that most service providers require of their customers.
Virgin mobile quotes this about their phone plan charges:
"Virgin Mobile's Beyond Talk unlimited data and messaging plans for iPhone start at $35 per month for access to Sprint's Nationwide Network, and customers can receive a $5 per-month plan discount when they register for automatic monthly payments with a credit card, debit card or PayPal account, making iPhone available for as low as $30 per month. Customers can also use their iPhone as a mobile hotspot through Virgin Mobile for an additional $15 per month."
Earlier last week, Cricket, another US-based carrier planning to offer the iPhone 4S on a prepaid basis, announced that they would be offering the phone at a subsidized rate $150 less than the price of the phone. Although the offer sounds more appealing, Cricket's lowest plan starts at $55 per month as opposed to the $30 lowest plan on Virgin Mobile.
All three of the phone plans from Virgin Mobile include unlimited texting and data usage but with voice minutes being the main differentiating factor. The three price points are separated at $30 for 300 minutes, $40 for 1200 minutes) and $50 for unlimited minutes).
The phone will be available via Virgin Mobile USA over the summer through their website and at RadioShack, Best Buy, and other select retailers.
