I'm totally new and with no experience in jailbreaking.
Can someone tell me if it's possible to jailbreak an ipad1 and making it looking as an original one?
What about fotos, apps, data and youtube favorites lists?
and what about restoring original settings? do I loose all everything?
Thanks in advance for your help
Regards
Albert

It has the last OS available I believe ii is the 5.xx. (i havent' actually by me)
I would like to be sure that all the functionality icons (like Allgemeines - in German) keep looking the same.
I was told that jailbreaking an ipad gives enormous flexibility, but make it more vulnerable

How should I proceed?
I have a windows based PC with iTunes installed;
1. Backing up ipad on PC
2. download Cydia on PC from ??? URL
3. and then ???
Do I run Cydia out of the PC or directly on the ipad?
Is Cydia just overriding ipad OS?
Is anything special I should take care of when installing Cydia?
And how long does it take the installation?
An Additional question:
Does make sense to buy one of the products advertised in this forum or it is easy enough to be done by oneself?

You should not purchase any type of product that jailbreaks. Make sure you are on 5.0.1 not 5.1 before you start. Cydia is an alternate app store so it shows up as another app on the iPad. When you install it you will use your pc. It's the same OS just you can access the root. It shouldn't take long - maybe 15 minutes if you are doing it for the first time.

At the moment I haven't my iPad with me, but I would like to do the following:
1) Back up my iPad up on an my PC or Ext HDD. Apple told me that after connecting the Ipad to the PC if I right-click the iTune iPad connection I can choose the drive where to backup. Is it true? And can I backup everything (like fotos, youtube favorites - really important) but music; let's say can I choose what I want to backup?
2) I believe I have installed the 5.1 firmware. Is there any chance to downgrade it to 5.0.1?
3) In case I would restore my iPad I understand I would loose everything I have been saving during the "jailbreak time". How could I syncronize the new entries (fotos, you tube favorites, etc) with the data I have backuped?
And just a curiosity: I saw somewhere on the web someone using "Spirit"; is it a different tool compare redsn0w?
Thank

If you are on 5.1 I would wait. It is only a tethered jailbreak which means you have to plug into a computer every time you reboot. You can't downgrade unless you have blobs saved which means you have jailbroken before. I'm not sure about selective backup - I just backup everything. If I don't want it I'll delete it. You don't lose anything while your jailbroken - sounds like a weird myth. Everything is normal except you have access to cydia and the root of your device. Spirit is an old jailbreak. The two main current jailbreaks I would recommend are redsn0w and sn0wbreeze.

For my understanding, when I restore I override everything I have on my jailbroken iPad. Is it correct?
So if during that time I collect new data on my iPad will they deleted? and if yes how could keep them and merge them to the old one?

If you restore from back up you won't lose anything! That should not be a concern. Everything is the same, as I've stated before. You can't tell how long it will take for an untethered jailbreak. No one knows.

on the Glossary Site (BTW really interesting!) is written:
Quote
This means the device is not permanently jailbroken, so when the device turns off, you will have to re-activate the jailbreak.
what is meant by turns off? Is it meant al "completely" shut down (like when I keep the power button press long and the I switch off) or just when I breifely press it and I put in "standby"?
is there any way to get alert of the new untethered jailbreak tools as soon they are released?
