NOT SURE IF THIS SHOULD BE POSTED HERE OR IN JAILBREAKING. BUT HERE IT IS
ok this might be a long read but i really need somebody's help.
i have an ipod touch 3rd-gen (IOS 4.1) that i have had for about a year now. i jailbroke it nearly as soon as i got it. the problem is that about a week ago i noticed that the album art was not right. i tried everything i could think of to try to fix it. but what i decided to do was to restore the unit. so i downloaded the official apple 4.1 package and used the shift button to use itunes to restore the ipod. however, the problem started occurring now that i cant re-jailbreak the unit. neither limera1n nor green poison will jailbreak this unit (what i mean is that they wont show the icon that is supposed to allow the installation of cydia). i thought maybe the jailbreak needs to be uninstalled before any kind of re-installation, but the only information i can find on jailbreak uninstallation is to use the restore function (which i already have). so at this point i guess i need help (or a step by stem walkthrough would be best) with how i get cydia back onto this device. ANY HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

A jailbreak is removed when you restore.

If I were you I'd go to the latest version of iOS and use redsn0w. You need to run it as administrator and depending on the version, xp service pack 3 compatibility mode

download redsn0w, point it to your 4.1 ipsw, follow the directions on screen.

little confused, never used redsn0w before (using the newest version BTW)
so i click extras, then do i use pwned dfu, select ispw, or custom ispw?

choose select ipsw, point it towards your 4.1 ipsw file, wherever you have it. If you don't have it, google felix bruns and go to the iPod Software part, you'll find the ipsw you need there. Download it, point redsn0w to it. Follow the on screen instructions, and you'll be good to go.

nope dosent help.....
all it did was brick my ipod......
then i proceeded to restore a fresh install of 4.1 from itunes......
initial problem still exists cannot jailbreak...
is there anyway to jail break the ispw, and then restore it through itunes??

you can try sn0wbreeze

use snowbreeze and it will create a ipsw which is already jailbroken.if that dont work then i would just update to 4.3.3 if u love ios4 or 5.0.1 if ur ipod can go that high.ios5 is better though

You need to Google what you have and want to do. ALWAYS USE GOOGLE It will even give you YouTube videos of the actions you want to perform.

sorry it took me a while to get back on, i burned my hand really bad, and this just hasnt been a big priority since

cygerhog: im a level 12 google master, been there tried that. if i had found an answer on google i would not have had to come here and beg for help.

kealii16: i want to stay on 4.1, otherwise i wouldnt be here asking how to do that...

as for sn0breeze...i tried it and it said that the custom JB IOS was on my desktop, so i used the "shift+restore" to fix it, but now i keep getting an error from itunes and the restore never completes. any other suggestions...........

how many GB is your ipod?

64 GB ipod touch 3rd gen,
could it be that the ipod is already jailbroken, just that there is some kind of error on it that keeps the icons from being seen, and would there be a way around said error??

how about try redsn0w again, this time don't go to extras, just click Jailbreak. (don't forget to run as admin)

it gets to the part where it says "exploiting with limerain", then the program hangs and about 20 seconds later my ipod finishes rebooting, and no changes have been made. could it be that the ipod is already jailbroken, just that there is some kind of error on it that keeps the icons from being seen, and would there be a way around said error??

hmm I've never heard of that happening before. If I'm remembering correctly it should reboot after exploiting with limera1n but it is supposed to move on to the next stage of he jailbreak after that.

Have you tried reinstalling iTunes?
