Apple has officially sent out invitations for an event on Wednesday, March 7th at 10 AM PT. It will take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.

As you can see from the invite image, there is a picture of an iPad dock with the tagline "We have something you really have to see. And touch." No surprise there. What do you think they might surprise us with?

I'm guessing landscape. It'd be hard to believe it doesn't.

But what is the "And touch." referring to?

That's what I'm thinking about, what if there is no home button and you simply touch the bottom bezel (or a small part of it) to go home?

Gizmodo seems to think there's no home button. They did their little tests with the water drops falling into the right places and stuff.

I feel sorry for all the 3-fingered people.

Obviously this would be a major change for all devices going forward. And it would explain the "touch" reference.

I only need one finger....I'll put the rest on ebay.

well the icon spacing is too close for it to be in landscape

plus multitasking gestured completely made my home button useless except for unlocking the lockscreen

You need at least 4 fingers for iPad gestures though.

You haven't seen my fingers work tho....

But seriously I don't use the gestures and rarely use the multitasking dock. I guess the switcher appears when you swipe up from the bottom, right? If I'm jailbroken I can just modify it the way I want with Activator.

I feel like no home button would be more difficult to apply to the iPhone, but maybe not. Accidentally unlocking would be one of the concerns.

The biggest rumor going around now is a launch of some kind of accessory. Kind of like how they announced the smart covers.

What accessory could they announce that would be new and awesome? It seems like everything has been done already. As for the lack of a home button, I think multitouch bezels work well on tablets. Tap once to go to home screen, swipe up from bottom to view multitasking tray/switcher/whatever. Swipe from left or right to move to next open app, tap with two fingers to play/pause music, etc. Plus once it's jailbroken it'd be sweet to assign new commands with Activator or some equivalent.

I think touch sensitive bezels on a tablet are a bad idea. Good on a phone though. That's probably why the Pre has a gesture area, but the TouchPad doesn't.

I think the "see" part might refer to the screen of the iPad 3, possibly a retina display.

See = retina
Touch = touch sensitive bezel

It'd be interesting to see what they would do with a touch sensitive bezel, but tbh I hope they don't.
