That only makes the UI seem faster. That won't make web pages load faster. It won't allow more powerful apps. That would be dumb.
Not to mention it's not one or the other. It's not like the faster they make a device, the less improvements to the software they can make.

Theres nothing wrong with the speed as it stands though. It needs more "stuff" in the OS before i see any point in hardware improvements other than the display and RAM. What's the point in a quadcore beast when you can only do the same old shit as before? Angry birds isn't going to play any better. Even if the same shit is slightly quicker, it's all stuff i dont wanna do anyways. I'm not interested until it can replace a computer for the most part. Which is still miles away.

I thought the retina display was defined by it's pixel density, if this higher res screen doesn't have an equal pixel density can it still be considered a retina display?

So what you're saying is because there are more software features you want, you don't want the iPad to get faster, right?

Apple markets the retina display as not being able to distinguish individual pixels when you hold it a normal distance from your face. Since you would hold the iPad further from your face, the pixel density doesn't have to be as high as it is on the iPhone ans therefore Apple can still call it a retina display.

It takes more processing power to display things at a higher resolution.

This is how much better the icons would look on a double resolution iPad.

I've been complaining about the iPads res for ages. I'm sure you remember Channan lol

Yeah I remember.
I still don't have a problem with the iPad's current resolution but double is going to be so nice!

look how fat it supposedly is!

I don't like the iPad anyways but i cant see the new form factor being a hit. Lets hope the pic exaggerates the difference.

that picture is irrelevant

How does it fail? and how is it irrelevant?
The reason it's fatter is supposedly because of why this topic exists (screen res)

A higher res screen wouldn't make it thicker. A bigger battery to power a dual back light, LTE, and possibly a more power hungry processor would.

well, if you look carefully, the ipad 2 has a more curved form factor towards the bezel making it look thinner. on top of that, the screen stands out a bit as well.
so yeah, this picture makes it look bigger
