Android users compare their's to it because everyone else uses it. It doesn't have to be the standard of excellence for people to compare with it.

nope. once you jailbreak it you have more freedom. nothing will changed in terms of processing power and ram. the ipod is nice for casually browsing the internet, lacking of flash, and absolutely not worth putting music on it.
