First let's define the terms jailbreak and unlock.

Jailbreak:The process used to open the software of an iDevice to allow the user greater access to the device to install non-Apple-approved software.

Unlock:To allow an iPhone to be used on an unofficial carrier. It requires the device to be jailbroken first if you are using a software unlock. Official carriers now unlock devices for customers in good standing (namely AT&T) and software unlocks are becoming a thing of the past.

There are many other terms you may come across that you are unsure of their meaning. Click here for a list of commonly used jailbreaking terms.

Hey , I was wondering , could iPhone 4S be jailbrolen without absinthe ? I heard there is something called CLI but not sure , also does it need a network connection ? My PC is not connected to internet. Thnx

The iPhone 4S is my mom's! My iPhone 3gs got hot then suddenly turned off , now when i try to turn it on all what hapens is apple logo appears , disappears , appears again and the process repeats itself not a good timing as i'm not home :/

I think you can use the latest redsn0w. Yes there is a CLI but it needs a network connection I think. It's also more complicated.

Sorry - Absinthe definitely needs a network connection. Check greenpoison.com about CLI.

Sure you can. You just need to be on the right firmware or have blobs saved.

You can't use ultrasn0w on that baseband. I don't think you are able to unlock that baseband. Sorry.
