Made this for Chris Hannan
You don't have to do this but I would do a wipe/reset to factory settings
turn the phone off> then hold the home button, down on the volume button, and the sleep button (top button) at the same time until it goes to the recovery menu
click on wipe data/factory reset wait for it to do its thing
also if you want you can delete everything on the sd card to remove any other unwanted stuff
you don't have to do it but I did, after all that is done on go to settings> applications > unknown sources make sure there's a green check mark on it
the tool I used to root is one click tool its an app called gingerbreak v1.20
download the gingerbreak 1.2 apk from the phone or on computer
http://forum.xda-dev...71&d=1303829207
after it downloads click on it or find it in download folder using a file manager
install it and click on root device
let it do its thing, I think it reboots
you're now rooted
go to the market and download Rom manager
open it and click on flash clockworkmod recovery
scroll down and find your phone ( optimus v) it flashes
after it flashes in Rom manager click on download Rom > Bernard> aospcmod> download
click on wipe (both wipes should be checked ) let it do its thing and follow the steps when its done rebooting, skip to sign in
you're now flash
go back to Rom manager >download Rom> google apps> 20110613 universal (second one)
just wipe cache should already be checked
reboots and you're done

You made that a lot harder then it needed to be.
Download gingerbreak, run it = root.
Download rom manager flash the rom... that's it.
No need for the wipes before you root.

I followed the instructions and upon reboot it loads past the LG screen, then gets stuck in a loop on the android screen. After a few cycles it just freezes and I have to pull the battery. Any ideas? Is there a button combination from start up that can force me to the recovery screen?

Did you flash a rom or kernal?
Always wipe dalvik
Most phones it's boot and hold the volume down button. Others its boot and hold the home button down.
After that press volume down untilled you see android recovery, then volume up.
This is assuming you flashed a recovery

Hold the volume down, the home button and the sleep button all together. Do it when the phone is off then it should go to recovery mode. Use the volume button to navigate through the menu. You probably didn't flash a custom recovery so just reset to factory settings and redo it is my guess
