i have just been looking at videos of xcode. some videos involve typing in code and shit, and others you just see people dragging and dropping preset images and actions onto an iphone shaped work area.

am i to assume the drag and drop method is doing the codey bit for us? or do you need to know that also?

i wanna make an app. something dead simple but with a purpose and reason to exist lol.

Dude, just learn the language. If millions of other people can, why cant you? Its called xcode, of course there's code. Interface builder (part of iphone sdk) is where you drag and drop views onto your app, but that is just the layout and design. All of the app's brains must still be written in code. Objective-C code.

Its not that bad really. I used to see objc code and be like "wtf is that mess?!" now, objc is quickly becoming my favorite language. Its so well structured and organized that you can easily do what you need to. All objects in objc are subclasses of NSObject, all view classes are subclasses of UIView, etc. There is a complex hierarchy of inheritence going on, yet its so simple and intuitive at the same time.

so how do you start? you dont need to know a whole language to string a sentence together. so what do i learn?
i cant just learn i have to do it to learn, otherwise i loose interest fast.

Anything which requires no coding won't make anything decent. The dragging and dropping this in xcode still requires coding.

Get a book, learn Objc, learn programming for the iPod, get Xcode, write your app.

First things first: make an alert box:

-(void)loadView {
    UIAlertView* alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Alert" message:@"This is analert popup view!" delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:@"Dismiss" otherButtonTitles:nil];
    [alert show];
    [alert release];
}

ooooo pretty colours XD.
could you explain that please? do i just go in xcode and paste that and make the UI with the drag and drop thing?
once I've done a couple of things i think it will start to just make sense.

Thanks for this

How about you go buy Programming in Objective C 2.0 3rd Ed. and actually LEARN instead of having others write the code for you.

Then do something besides programming because it's ALL books and reading.
